COMEX Metals Analysis: Gold and silver remain below key averages as copper extends gains

By Finoways Research TeamPublished 13 Oct 2026, 07:30 UAEInstruments: Gold (GC), Silver (SI), Copper (HG)

Gold and silver are trading below their 20-day and 50-day averages, with RSI readings near 42 indicating soft but not deeply oversold momentum. Copper remains above both moving averages and has gained 5.43% over 20 days, giving it the strongest technical structure among the three metals. The main scheduled risk in the next 48 hours is the US CPI release at 16:30 UAE on Wednesday, alongside several Federal Reserve speakers. Conditions remain mixed across COMEX metals, so confirmation around the stated levels is important.

What to watch today

  • Gold: pivot at 4203.7, support at 4165 and resistance at 4229.2.
  • Silver: pivot reference at 60.14, recent low at 59.81 and resistance at 60.63.
  • Copper: pivot at 6.704, resistance at 6.72 and 20-day high at 6.83.
  • Wednesday CPI release at 16:30 UAE, including core and headline inflation readings.
  • Federal Reserve speakers on Tuesday and Wednesday, especially before and after the CPI release.

Technical analysis

Gold (GC)

Bearish 4,221.2 +0.73% live

Gold remains below its 20-day average at 4253 and 50-day average at 4380.9, while trading in the lower half of its 20-day range between 4091.2 and 4439.8.

Gold closed at 4201.2 after trading between 4173.7 and 4204.8. The close is just below the pivot at 4203.7, while the nearest calculated support is 4165 and the next support is 4139.5. Resistance is positioned at 4229.2, followed by the 20-day average at 4253.

The broader structure remains soft because price is below both the 20-day and 50-day averages. The 14-day RSI, a momentum measure ranging from 0 to 100, is 42.6, showing weaker momentum without reaching an extremely oversold reading. The ATR, which measures typical daily price movement, is 75.5, so swings around the nearby levels may remain wide.

Bullish scenarioIf Gold holds above 4203.7 and then moves through 4229.2, attention could turn to 4253, while failure to sustain those levels would keep the broader weakness in focus.
Bearish scenarioIf Gold falls below 4165, the next downside level to watch is 4139.5, with the 20-day low at 4091.2 providing a wider range reference.

Silver (SI)

Bearish 60.92 +1.29% live

Silver is below its 20-day average at 62.25 and 50-day average at 64.21, while sitting near the lower portion of its 20-day range from 58.92 to 66.94.

Silver closed at 60.38 after reaching 60.63 on the upside and 59.81 on the downside. The calculated pivot levels are all shown at 60.14, making that level the immediate reference. The recent low at 59.81 and the 20-day low at 58.92 are the next downside areas, while 60.63 and the 20-day exponential average at 61.76 are nearby resistance references.

Silver is below its 20-day average of 62.25 and 50-day average of 64.21, and it has declined 4.52% over 20 days. RSI, a momentum indicator, is 42.43, which points to subdued momentum rather than an extreme reading. ATR is 1.22, indicating that daily movement can be comparatively large relative to the current price.

Bullish scenarioIf Silver remains above 60.14 and clears 60.63, the next level to monitor is 61.76, followed by the 20-day average at 62.25.
Bearish scenarioIf Silver slips below 59.81, attention could shift toward the 20-day low at 58.92 while price remains below its key moving averages.

Copper (HG)

Bullish 6.754 +0.83% live

Copper is above its 20-day average at 6.608 and 50-day average at 6.587, with price near the upper end of its 20-day range between 6.35 and 6.83.

Support6.704  |  6.682

Copper closed at 6.714 after trading between 6.706 and 6.764. Price is above the pivot at 6.704 and close to the first resistance at 6.72. Additional nearby levels are support at 6.682 and 6.666, with resistance at 6.742 and the 20-day and 60-day high at 6.83.

The trend structure is constructive because Copper remains above its 20-day average of 6.608 and 50-day average of 6.587. It has risen 5.43% over 20 days, while RSI, a 0-to-100 momentum measure, is 57.986 and therefore positive without being at an extreme. ATR is 0.072, providing a guide to typical daily movement.

Bullish scenarioIf Copper holds above 6.704 and clears 6.72, the next levels to monitor are 6.742 and the 20-day high at 6.83.
Bearish scenarioIf Copper falls below 6.682, the next downside reference is 6.666, while a deeper retreat could bring the 20-day average at 6.608 back into focus.

The most important scheduled event for all three metals is the US CPI release on Wednesday at 16:30 UAE. Core CPI month-over-month is forecast at 0.2% versus 0.3% previously, while headline CPI month-over-month is forecast at 0.6% versus 0.4% previously. The year-over-year forecasts are 2.5% for core CPI and 3.6% for headline CPI.

Inflation figures can produce sharp moves in USD-sensitive metals as traders reassess interest-rate expectations. A stronger-than-expected reading may increase pressure on Gold and Silver, while a softer-than-expected reading could reduce that pressure; Copper may also react through changes in broader growth and currency expectations. The scheduled Federal Reserve speakers are lower-impact events, but their comments may still create short-term volatility.

  • Tuesday 13 October: Waller speaks at 11:45 UAE, NFIB Small Business Index at 14:00, ADP Weekly Employment Change at 16:15, Existing Home Sales at 18:00, and Barkin speaks at 21:00.
  • Wednesday 14 October: Collins speaks at 00:00 UAE and Bowman speaks at 13:40, ahead of CPI at 16:30.
  • Wednesday 14 October: Barkin speaks at 21:30 and the Beige Book is scheduled for 22:00.

Algo insight: how a rules-based system treats today

A rules-based approach would treat Gold and Silver as weaker-trend markets while they remain below their 20-day and 50-day averages, and Copper as the stronger-trend market while it holds above both averages. RSI can help classify momentum, but it should not be used alone to determine direction.

ATR should guide risk-distance calculations: the current readings are 75.5 for Gold, 1.22 for Silver and 0.072 for Copper. Wider ATR-based stop distances generally require smaller position sizing if account risk is kept constant. The high-impact CPI release at 16:30 UAE is a key period for avoiding new signals or reducing exposure to event-driven volatility.

Session timing should also be handled consistently. An algorithm can wait for a confirmed close beyond the relevant pivot or nearby support and resistance rather than reacting to a brief intraday spike, particularly around the CPI release and Federal Reserve comments.
