COMEX Metals Analysis: Gold and silver remain under pressure as copper stabilises near its averages

By Finoways Research TeamPublished 02 Oct 2026, 07:30 UAEInstruments: Gold (GC), Silver (SI), Copper (HG)

Gold and silver remain below their 20-day and 50-day averages, keeping their short-term technical bias under pressure. Copper is trading close to its moving averages after a modest five-day decline, giving it a more balanced structure. The US employment report and wage data at 16:30 UAE time may increase volatility across all three metals. Price action around the stated pivot, support and resistance levels is likely to matter most after the release.

What to watch today

  • Gold: pivot at 4198.2, support at 4173.5 and 4144.8, resistance at 4226.9.
  • Silver: support at 60.83 and 60.62; last high resistance at 61.54.
  • Copper: pivot support at 6.492 and resistance around 6.565 to 6.583.
  • US employment, wage and unemployment data at 16:30 UAE time.
  • Factory Orders and Logan speech at 18:00 UAE time.

Technical analysis

Gold (GC)

Bearish 4,218.1 +0.38% live

Gold is below its SMA20 at 4336.3 and SMA50 at 4367.0, with the recent range positioned near the 20-day low at 4143.1.

Gold closed at 4201.0, almost in line with its pivot at 4198.2, after trading between 4162.9 and 4213.3. The close remains below the EMA20 at 4312.6, SMA20 at 4336.3 and SMA50 at 4367.0, indicating that the broader short-term structure is still weak.

Momentum is soft but not deeply oversold: the RSI, a 0-to-100 measure of recent momentum, is 36.6. The nearest downside levels are pivot support at 4173.5 and 4144.8; a sustained move below the latter would bring the 20-day low at 4143.1 into focus. On the upside, recovery through 4226.9 and 4251.6 would show improving near-term pressure, although the moving averages remain higher.

Bullish scenarioIf Gold holds above 4198.2 and then clears 4226.9, watch whether it can extend toward 4251.6 while momentum improves from 36.6.
Bearish scenarioIf Gold slips below 4173.5, watch 4144.8 and the 20-day low at 4143.1 for signs of continued downside pressure.

Silver (SI)

Bearish 61.64 +1.51% live

Silver is below its SMA20 at 64.00 and SMA50 at 63.92, trading close to the lower part of its 20-day range between 60.00 and 68.11.

Silver closed at 61.23, above its pivot at 60.83, after recovering from an intraday low of 60.53. Despite the 0.83% daily gain, the five-day and 20-day changes remain negative, while the close is below the EMA20 at 63.38, SMA20 at 64.00 and SMA50 at 63.92.

The RSI is 41, which indicates weak momentum without showing an extreme oversold reading. Initial support is clustered at 60.83 and 60.62, followed by the pivot S2 at 60.51 and the 20-day low at 60.00. A move above the last high at 61.54 would improve the immediate tone, while the EMA20 at 63.38 remains an important higher resistance reference.

Bullish scenarioIf Silver holds above 60.83 and moves through 61.54, watch for a test of the EMA20 at 63.38 as momentum attempts to recover.
Bearish scenarioIf Silver falls below 60.62, watch 60.51 and the 20-day low at 60.00 for evidence that the lower-range pressure is returning.

Copper (HG)

Neutral 6.586 +1.60% live

Copper is just below its SMA20 at 6.583 but above its SMA50 at 6.554, keeping it near the middle of its recent range despite a mild five-day decline.

Copper closed at 6.556, above its pivot at 6.492 and near the SMA50 at 6.554. It remains slightly below the EMA20 at 6.578 and SMA20 at 6.583, so the daily structure is mixed: the 1.14% session gain contrasts with a 2.08% five-day decline.

The RSI is 49.182, close to the neutral midpoint, while the ATR, a measure of typical daily price movement, is 0.091. Support is at 6.492 and 6.450; resistance is near 6.565 and the EMA20 at 6.578. A sustained move beyond those averages would strengthen the near-term structure, whereas a loss of pivot support would weaken it.

Bullish scenarioIf Copper holds above 6.492 and clears 6.565, watch 6.578 and 6.583 for confirmation that price is reclaiming its short-term averages.
Bearish scenarioIf Copper falls below 6.492, watch 6.450 and the pivot S2 at 6.419 for signs of renewed weakness within the recent range.

The most important scheduled events are the US Average Hourly Earnings, Non-Farm Employment Change and Unemployment Rate at 16:30 UAE time. Forecasts are 0.3% for wage growth, 89K for employment change and 4.1% for unemployment, compared with previous readings of 0.3%, 162K and 4.1% respectively.

Because all three metals are priced in US dollars, high-impact employment and wage figures can typically produce sharp moves in metals and the dollar, with volatility often increasing immediately after the release. The lower-impact Factory Orders report and a Logan speech are scheduled for 18:00 UAE time; market reaction may be more limited, but traders should still allow for additional price movement.

Algo insight: how a rules-based system treats today

A rules-based approach would treat Gold and Silver as higher-volatility markets relative to their stated support and resistance bands, using ATR14 values of 85.0 and 1.18 to assess stop distance and position size. Copper's ATR14 is 0.091, but its close to the moving averages suggests that false breaks around 6.565 to 6.583 may require additional confirmation.

Position sizing can be reduced when the expected price movement is large, while stop distance should be evaluated against each instrument's ATR rather than fixed dollar amounts. A rules-based system may avoid opening new exposure immediately around the 16:30 UAE high-impact release, then reassess volatility and price acceptance around the pivots. Session timing also matters because liquidity and reaction speed can change around major US data releases.
